Northeastern Junior College
Sports Medicine
The Sports Medicine program at NJC is in its fifth year. NJC is the only two-year college in the state to offer an Associate's Degree in Sports Medicine and who has a certified athletic trainer on its full-time staff. The program in Sports Medicne has an emphasis in athletic training. it will instruct students in the techniques of this growing profession and prepare them for the time when they transfer to a CAAHEP (Commission on Accrediatation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited four-year school to continue thier education in athletic training.
The program has attracted tremendous interest from students due to its unique balance of traditional classroom education and hands-on experience. Northeastern Junior College provides a special opportunity to its athletic trainers and are assigned to work with one of the four varsity athletic programs. Such experience is usually reserved for junior and senior students at four year institutions.
In addition to providing education opportunities for students, the Sports Medicine program provides much needed medical attention to NJC's many student athletes including injury evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation.
Heading up this program is Amanda McMurtrey, a certified athletic trainer (ATC) by the National Athletic Trainer's Association. Amanda is in her second year at NJC. For more information please contact Amanda at amandamcmurtrey@njc.edu or (970) 521-6674.
