Jaci Mathis

Player Profile

Hometown:
Sterling, CO

High School:
Sterling HS

Position:
Head Coach (1st Year)

Alma Mater:
University of Northern Colorado

Jaci Mathis begins her first year as Cheerleading/Dance coach. She is very dedicated in bringing a new flavor to the program with the cheerleaders being a solid crowd-pleasing squad, and the dance team with a hip-hop vibe that Sterling does not see often.

Mathis began dance lessons as a three-year-old, beginning in tumbling and gymnastics and eventually moved on to jazz, tap and ballet. Even though Mathis enjoyed dancing, she had to make the tough decision between it and competitive sports, she chose softball and basketball. However, Mathis still loved dancing and continued to watch her sister grow as a dancer. Mathis still maintains a high interest in dance, especially hip-hop.

Mathis was born and raised in Sterling and graduated in 2002 from Sterling High School. As a strong competitor in both softball and basketball, Mathis was always a leader because of her enthusiasm, dedication and willingness to learn new things.

Mathis received her Associate's Degree in Art while participating in dance for one out of her two years at NJC. She then transferred to UNC in Greeley, CO to continue her education studying Graphic Design. She graduated in 2006. Mathis moved back to Sterling desiring to be closer to family, but also in hopes of finding a career in her hometown.

In addition to leading the NJC cheerleading and dance teams, Mathis is the Graphic Design instructor for the newly established program at NJC. She has also coached various softball teams as both assistant and head for summer teams and the high school softball program. She also currently participates in coed and women's softball leagues as well.
