NJC Busts Out For 30 Runs, Two Wins

March 16, 2007

The Northeastern Junior College baseball team broke out in a big way on Friday in the Pima Classic.

After being held to just six hits in the first two games combined, the Plainsmen put a combined 30 runs on the board to record two victories. Northeastern needed just 10 innings to put both teams away as both contests ended by 10-run rule after the fifth.

NJC pounded the Langley Blaze, 13-1, in the first game on Friday. Freshman Ty Cardona picked up the win with five innings of work on the mound.

The Plainsmen played the revenge card in the second game, blasting Williston State. Williston defeated NJC, 9-5, on Sunday. NJC won 17-1 with freshman Jose Collazo leading the way at the plate with three hits and four RBIs.

Jacob Clinton surrendered just one run in four innings of work on the hill to pick up his second win of the season. Sophomore Aaron Howe came on to throw a flawless fifth inning to end the game.

Northeastern improved to 13-7 overall.
