Plainsmen Fall In Two Key Conference Games

April 3, 2007

The Northeastern Junior College baseball team fell to 19-11-1 on Monday after dropping a doubleheader to Western Nebraska in Scottsbluff, Neb.

The Plainsmen squandered five opportunities with runners in scoring position in the first game en route to a 2-1 loss. It was the team's eighth, one-run loss of the season.

Freshman Ty Cardona took the loss and fell to 4-1 on the season. Cardona went the distance but was victimized by a lack of run support and a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.

Mike Mendenhall's RBI single produced the Plainsmen's only run.

In the second game, NJC freshman Arvin Perez took his first loss of the season. Perez was touched for three runs in the bottom of the third inning.

The Plainsmen battled back in the top of the fourth to take the lead, 4-3, on a 2-RBI single by Josh Warren. Western fired back in the bottom of the fourth with three runs to end the scoring.

NJC dropped to 8-4 in Region IX. The Plainsmen travel to Trinidad on Apr. 6 and 7 for two doubleheaders.
