NJC Drops Pair At Lamar

April 29, 2007

The Northeastern Junior College baseball team lost all hopes of winning the regular-season, Region IX championship when they dropped a doubleheader at Lamar on Sunday.

NJC fell to 23-21 overall and 12-14 in conference play.

Lamar took the first game, 9-0, as NJC could muster just three hits off Lamar ace Willie Kesler.

NJC starting pitcher Arvin Perez was roughed up for six runs in the third inning.

NJC freshman Josh Warren singled and scored in the first inning of the second game as the Plainsmen held a 1-0 lead on Lamar until the bottom of the fifth inning.

Lamar's Kesler struck again, this time with the bat. Kesler deposited a Ty Cardona fastball over the center-field wall to give Lamar the lead and the game.

Cardona threw six solid innings, giving up just three hits and walking one.

NJC travels to Ft. Collins on Tuesday to take on Colorado State University-Club at 1 p.m.
