Plainsmen Complete Sweep of #25 Seward County

The Plainsmen Baseball Team completed a 4 game sweep over #25 ranked Seward County CC on Friday on Liberal, KS. NCJ won a pair of games from the Saints in Liberal on Tuesday, 6-4 and 3-2, before taking the final two games of the 4 game set on Friday, 12-7 and 3-0.

Sophomore lefty James Quisenberry(1-1) picked up the win in game one on Tuesday in Liberal, going 5 innings giving up 9 hits and 5 strikeouts. Freshman Bryan Kruse came on for the last two inning to record the save for the NJC. Curtis Burback was 3-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 rbi's and 2 doubles. Danny Brock and Sean Flaherty also had 2 hits for NJC. Flaherty also had two rbi's in the game.

Game two saw sophomore transfer Mike McClaren (1-1) throw 5 2/3 innings, giving up 5 hits and two runs and pick up his first win of the season. Colton Williams came on to throw the final 1 1/3 to record the save in the 3-2 victory Curtis Burback was 2-3 at the plate while 5 other Plainsmen had a hit in the game. Josh Warren had a 2-rbi double in the 4th inning that would prove to be the difference.

Game 3 would see NJC in an early 4-0 hole after the first inning. However, they would score 1 in the 3rd and 9 unearned in the 4th on 6 hits to put the game away. Darren Chavez (2-0) would settle in to throw 5 innings, giving up 3 hits and 5 total runs while striking out four. Zak Enriquez would finish the last two ining on the mound. Sam Feiner went 4-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 rbi's. Curtis Burback, Billy McHenry and Sean Flaherty each added two hits to the 14 total for the Plainsmen.

NJC would win the final game of the series 3-0, while scoring all 3 runs in the 2nd inning. Arvin Perez would dominate Saints hitters in game 4, throwing 6 2/3 innings, giving up no runs on 3 hits and striking out 10. Colton Williams would throw the last 1/3 to pick up his second save against SCCC. Sean Flaherty was 2-3 at the plate with an RBI. Three other Plainsmen hitters would also single in the win. NJC will travel to Dodge City, KS to play Dodge City CC on Sunday and Monday as the Saturday games were postponed due to rain. "It felt good to go into my alma mater and win 4 games. I have the utmost respect for Coach McSpadden, and consider him a mentor of mine. It means alot to go in there and win." stated Coach Shepherd after the wins on Friday.
