Plainsmen Split at WNCC
April 27, 2006 The Plainsmen Baseball Team split a double header on Wednesday at Cleveland Park in Scottsbluff, NE with Western Nebraska CC, winning game 1 4-3 and dropping game 2 2-0. In game 1, Sophomore 1B Kellen Love brought the game to a tie with a 2-run blast to the opposite field in the 3rd inning. Northeastern would then take advantage of two WNCC errors to take a 4-3 lead late in the game. Angelo Cordova came on in relief for the Plainsmen in the 6th inning with two on and nobody out and shut down the Cougars threat to pick up the save in rellief of Jacob Clinton. Clinton battled his way through 4+ innings to pick up the win. John Richards was 3-4 at the plate for NJC. Game two saw Calder Hendrickson come back from a short rest of the arm to pitch a strong 6 inning complete game, but the Plainsmen offense could not give him much for run support as he suffered a 2-0 loss. The offense had its chances to score in the nightcap, but timely hits were just not there. Chad Jacobsen hit a hard line drive to right field with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the 7th, but it was right at the WNCC fielder and would prove to be the final out for NJC in the game. NJC will next take on Lamar CC at home on Sunday at 1:00 and Otero JC at home on Monday at 1:00. Both are double headers and can be heard on KPMX.COM or 105.7 KPMX Radio. |
