CSU Clubs Northeastern

May 1, 2007

The Northeastern Junior College baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision to Colorado State University-Club in Ft. Collins on Tuesday.

It was NJC's fourth consecutive loss and it dropped the Plainsmen to 23-22 overall.

Coach Bryan Shepherd's team got out of the gate early with two runs in the first to take the early lead. Josh Warren doubled to start the game and Langston Frison followed with a single. After a double steal, Jose Collazo knocked in Warren and Frison with a single.

The Plainsmen could not hold on as CSU-Club scored twice in the bottom of the third off starter Jesus Colon. The Rams got two more in the bottom of the fifth off NJC reliever Justin Sortino to take a 4-2 lead and never look back.

Frison led NJC at the plate by reaching base all five times he came to the plate. The sophomore from Omaha walked and wrapped out three singles and a double. Frison added a run scored and two stolen bases to his stellar day at the plate.

Gustavo Velazquez and Josh Warren had two hits apiece, but the Plainsmen did not capitalize with runners in scoring positon.

NJC travels to Trinidad on May 4 and 5 for a four-game series. The Plainsmen will play for a chance to spoil Trinidad's bid at the regular-season, Region IX title.
