Plainsmen Use Balanced Attack To Beat Western Nebraska
Jan. 20, 2007
The NJC men's basketball team notched its 15th win of the season with a convincing, 94-82, drubbing of Western Nebraska in the Jackson-Edwards arena. Coach Eddie Trenkle's team took a 50-35 lead at halftime and never looked back. The Plainsmen set the tone in the opening period by shooting 54 percent from the field and burying 4-of-9 three-pointers. Western Nebraska fell victim to a team with far too many weapons. Five NJC players scored in double figures. Espanola, N.M., native Mike Dominguez and Omar Leary of Portland, Ore., scored 18 points each while Leary passed out 11 assists. Gilbert, Ariz., forward Shane Edwards recorded his fourth double-double in as many games with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Plainsmen sixth man Troy Smith came off the bench to chip in 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. LaTravis Turner added 11 points and seven boards to the NJC balanced attack while Rashad Austin checked in with nine points and six rebounds. |
