Plainsmen Stifle Sheridan's Transition Game

Jan. 27, 2007

Final Stats

The Northeastern Junior College men's basketball team is the 7th-ranked team in the country. They backed that ranking up Friday night with a convincing, 95-77 win over Sheridan, Wyo.

"The first half we struggled to stop them in transition," Head Coach Eddie Trenkle said. "That's what we addressed at halftime is that `you gotta get back.' Once we stopped them in transition we got some separation, so to me that was the key to the game."

Omar Leary led all scorers with 19 points. He hit 7-of-9 shots from the perimeter, knocking down a couple of three-pointers. The sophomore from Portland, Oreg., also dished out a game-high nine assists.

Rashad Austin and Shane Edwards each scored 16. Edwards pulled down a game-high nine rebounds while Austin grabbed five.

LaTravis Turner and Mike Dominguez finished with 14 points apiece. Dominguez continued his hot shooting from three-point range, nailing 4-of-5 from behind the arc.

The Plainsmen moved to 19-1 on the season. Trenkle's group will take its top-ten ranking to Otero on Tuesday.
