No. 5 Plainsmen Return To Form Saturday To Run Past Casper

Feb. 4, 2007

Final Stats

The Northeastern Junior College men's basketball team bounced back Saturday night after an uninspired win on Friday. The Plainsmen went back to their style of fast-paced basketball to dominate Casper Community College, 100-76.

"That was a fun game to coach," NJC coach Eddie Trenkle said. "We looked more like ourselves."

Five players scored in double figures for NJC with Shane Edwards leading the way with 22 points. Edwards hit 11-of-15 shots on Saurday to bounce back from a tough Friday night against Trinidad where he was held to just four points.

NJC forward Rashad Austin turned in a stellar night that was near perfection. The sophomore from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; recorded a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Austin was 6-of-6 from the field shooting and 4-of-4 at the free throw line.

Omar Leary, Troy Smith and Curtis Ashe each scored 13 points. Ashe hit 3-of-5 three pointers in eight minutes of substitute work for the Plainsmen.

Ashe said he'd been looking forward to taking full advantage of his limited minutes.

"I try to do stuff in practice that makes me feel like I'm in a game situation," Ashe said. "I know my role on this team is to come in under control and not turn the ball over. But I was a scorer in high school, and I finally got a chance to come in and do something."
