No. 4 Plainsmen Overcome 18-Point Deficit

Feb. 14, 2007

Final Stats

The Northeastern Junior College men's basketball team put their No. 4 national ranking in jeopardy on Tuesday. Coach Eddie Trenkle's team fell behind by 18 points in the first half at Trinidad.

The Plainsmen battled back to win, 78-70 on the road. Trinidad's big lead slipped to 38-37 at the half, and the second half was all Plainsmen.

NJC's Mike Dominguez hit four consecutive three-pointers in the second half to help his team avoid the upset.

"Mike Dominguez was definitely the best player we had," Trenkle said.

Trenkle said LaTravis Turner's contribution came at a perfect time. Turner scored 16 and pulled down nine rebounds in the comeback.

"That was the biggest 16 and nine of the season," Trenkle said. "We couldn't do anything in the first half, but LaTravis kept us in it."

The fourth-ranked Plainsmen take on Otero in Jackson-Edwards Arena on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
