No. 4 Plainsmen Shoot Past Otero In Homecoming Game

Final Stats

The No. 4 Northeastern Junior College men's basketball team delivered a 98-69 victory over Otero to a full-house crowd in Jackson-Edwards arena for Hoops Homecoming.

NJC moved to 25-1 on the season with two, regular-season games remaining.

Coach Eddie Trenkle's team stormed out to a 9-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game to set the tone. The Rattlers never made a game of it. NJC took a 44-30 lead into the locker room powered by Omar Leary's 10, first-half points.

As a team, NJC shot a blistering 62 percent from the field in the first half. The Plainsmen didn't cool off in the second half to finish the night hitting 60 percent from the perimeter.

Leary, along with NJC sophomore Rashad Austin, led all scorers in the game with 16 points apiece. Leary led all players with five assists while Austin pulled down a team-high, six rebounds.

Mississauga, Ontario freshman Isaac Kuon was the only other NJC player in double figures with 11 points. Kuon was 3-of-3 shooting from the field and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.

LaTravis Turner, Shane Edwards and Mike Dominguez all finished with nine points.

The Plainsmen take on Western Nebraska in Scottsbluff, Neb.; on Feb. 20. Trenkle's team rounds out the regular season at home against North Platte on Feb. 27.
