Feb. 18, 2008
By Anthony Arroyo Journal-Advocate sports reporter STERLING -- The Plainsmen were victorious 87-62 Wednesday evening against Trinidad State Junior College, bringing their overall record to 25-3 on the season. Northeastern led 40-26 at half-time and held off a run by TSJC early in the second half to cruise to the victory. The team is now winners of eight in a row, setting up a showdown with Otero Junior College Saturday night for Homecoming Weekend.
Otero is 8-18 on the season, but played NJC tough during its first meeting, with the score 88-72. On the women's side, the Plainswomen look to wrap up a great season at home. They come into the big game with a 22-5 record and suffered a 55-53 defeat during its first meeting with Otero.
A victory by more than two points will crown itself South-Sub Regional Champs for the second straight year under head coach Darrel Parker. The regional tournament begins the first week in March.
Saturday's games begin at 5:30 p.m., with the women and 7:30 p.m., for the men.
