Plainsmen Run Past Fort Carson
Nov. 6, 2006
The NJC basketball team cracked the century mark in scoring for the second time in as many games on Saturday. Coach Eddie Trenkle's group jumped out to a 58-18 lead at halftime en route to a 110-51 victory over Fort Carson. The Plainsmen showed the natural progression of having one game under their belt. Trenkle said his team was sharper on both sides of the court on Saturday. "We executed better on Saturday," Trenkle said. "We were crisper in our offense and we were jumping to the ball better on defense. I was real happy with our bench play in the second game. We probably have some guys who deserve to start but they just have someone better and more mature in front of them at the time." The 40-point, halftime lead was powered by a defensive effort that held Fort Carson to 17 percent shooting in the first half. Shane Edwards led all scorers with 16 points while NJC had four other players in double figures. Eric Miller had 13 points and Tom Chott came off the bench to pour in 12 from the three-point line. "Tom came in and did a nice job," Trenkle said. "He used his minutes the right way." Mike Dominguez added 11 points and Rashad Austin had 10 to push NJC to its 59-point victory. |
