Troy Smith drives for two of his 30 points against Miles

Plainsmen 2-0 In Bank Of Colorado Shootout

Nov. 20, 2007

Final Stats

The No. 8-ranked Plainsmen got things started with a 82-67 victory against Miles City Community College to begin tournament play Friday.

Northeastern was only up 42-40 at halftime, before the second half explosion.

NJC got a huge game from sophomore Troy Smith, who cashed in a game-high 30 points on 13-19 shooting, including three from downtown. Smith also contributed with eight rebounds and four steals in 35 minutes of action.

Sophomore Mike Dominguez had 12 points on four three-pointers, while Lawrence Tyson, Jaron Lewis and A.J. Wilson each had eight points for NJC.

Saturday against the Pueblo All-Stars, the team needed a late push to earn a 110-94 victory to close out tournament play.

Pueblo had a 52-47 lead at halftime and led halfway through the second half before NJC began pulling away. "Pueblo is a tough team to play against, they are really athletic and can shoot the ball extremely well. You can't let guys with experience and talent get on a roll shooting wise or you could find yourself in trouble", stated Head Coach Eddie Trenkle.

Scoring was much more balanced in this contest, with DeRay Wilson leading the way with 28 points for his team. Dominguez hit five three-pointers, on his way to 22 points.

Smith added 16, while Tyson and Lewis both had 12 points off the bench.

Northeastern will travel to Cheyenne today to play Laramie County Community College at 6 p.m. The Plainsmen return home this weekend for tournament action Friday and Saturday night's.
