Plainsmen Sweep Weekend Improve to 8-0

Nov. 27, 2007

Final Stats

STERLING -- The Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen claimed two more wins in the early season, this time at the Ramada Roundball Classic Tournament at the Bank of Colorado Event Center this weekend.

Friday, the ranked No. 7 Plainsmen earned a 117-65 victory against F.E. Warren and defeated the Pueblo All-Stars for the second time in as many weeks with a 91-87 victory.

NJC is now 8-0 on the year.

Stats were not made available before press time, but there is no need for it because it was a full team effort Friday. The game was out of hand early, with the team opening a 18-0 lead to start the contest.

NJC knew they were going to be in a tough game because their Saturday opponent was very familiar.

Northeastern had defeated the Pueblo All-Stars 110-94 two weekend's ago as part of the Bank of Colorado Shootout Invitational. The game was played nearly the same, with NJC on top yet again.

The home team had a 54-43 lead at halftime, unlike last time, when they were down at the half. Through eight games, that is the only contest the Plainsmen didn't lead at the half.

Pueblo made a run late, but similar to last time, they ran out of gas. NJC shot 52 percent from the field and shot 81 percent from the free throw line.

Leading the way for Northeastern was Jaron Lewis, who had 18 points and four rebounds. Alex Garcia added 12 points and three steals, while big man A.J Wilson also added 12 points in 14 minutes of work.

Mike Dominguez had 11 points on three from deep. Point guard DeRay Wilson had six points and eight assists on Saturday.

Northeastern will hit the road on Wednesday to play Eastern Wyoming College on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game. The team returns home this weekend for the Pepsi Classic when they host College of Eastern Utah Friday and Air Force Prep Saturday.
