Plainsmen Ease By Southeast Nebraska

The Northeastern Junior College men's basketball team rolled through the Region IX Shootout at North Platte, Neb., on Friday and Saturday. The Plainsmen won handily in two games to take a 12-1 record into Christmas Break. NJC defeated Southeast Nebraska, 86-46, on Friday as four Plainsmen scored in double figures and three players recorded double-doubles. Gilbert, Ariz., sophomore Shane Edwards scored a game-high 16 points to go along with his ten rebounds. Edwards hit 8-of-13 shots from the field for the game. Sophomore LaTravis Turner chipped in 14 points and 10 boards. The Portland native missed just two shots from the field while chipping in two steals on the defensive side. Rashad Austin continued to be a force in the paint with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The sophomore from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., was 5-of-7 from the field and also recorded two steals. Colorado Springs freshman Curtis Ashe came off the bench to score ten points. He added six rebounds, three assists and four steals in 16 minutes. |
