Radio Stations Release Broadcast Schedule For Region IX Games

Feb. 28, 2007

The following is a run-down of the Region IX Basketball Tournament broadcast schedule for the NJC men and women.

If the games are played on schedule there will be some overlap of the women's game and the men's game each day. We think we've come up with a pretty good way to cover all the action. All of the games will be available from tip off to final buzzer on our Internet streams at www.kpmx.com. On the days when the men's game will start before the women's game ends, we will start the women's game on KPMX and carry it in its entirety. When the men's game begins we will give updates on the men's game as the action in the women's game allows. We will then join the men's game in progress as soon as the women's game ends. (If the women's game happens to be a blowout, we may use our discretion to cut away to the men's game. If we do that, we will continue to give updates on the air and the play-by-play will continue to be available on the Internet stream.)

For those that would like to listen to the men's games starting with the opening tip off, in addition to carrying the game on the web, we will also be airing the games on 1010 KSIR (in their entirety). (The Saturday game will not be on KSIR.) This isn't a perfect solution for Sterling listeners because the games will be after sunset when we have to reduce the power of KSIR. In the evening people in Sterling will have some difficulty receiving KSIR inside houses and buildings, but it is generally listenable in vehicles. But it will give the "diehard" fans, that don't have Internet access, an over-the-air option to listen to the entire men's game. Plus it will give the team additional exposure and publicity in the Fort Morgan area.

Pat O'Rourke, who does our afternoon sports on KPMX, will be covering the men's tournament. We have been told we will have access to a phone line in Scottsbluff, allowing us to use our Tieline technology which gives the broadcast that great "you are there" sound. For the women's coverage we have hired Chris Crossen, a sportscaster in Casper, to call the games for us.

We will be publicizing the broadcast and streaming plans on KPMX and KSIR, but I wanted you to have the details of our plans in case you get questions. Feel free to have people call 970-522-4800 with questions as well.
