Tyler Smith Selected to NJCAA All-Star Game
April 1, 2006 NJC Sophomore All-American Candidate Tyler Smith has been selected to play in the first annual NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Classic. The game will be on of two held April 22 at Kilgore College in Kilgore, TX. The first game will consist of a combination of All-Stars from NJCAA Division II and III schools from across the country. Smith will participate in the second game of the evening, with a group of NJCAA Division I All-Stars. The Division I All-Stars are made up of the ten best junior college players in the country and they will do battle against a group of All-Stars from NJCAA Region XIV (East Texas). Smith led the Plainsmen to the second best record in school history at 30-4. He was named the NJCAA National Player of the Week and twice named Region IX Player of the Week. Smith was key for the Plainsmen all season leading them in scoring(20.1), rebounding(6.7), steals(3.5), assists(4.0), and minutes played. "We are very proud to have Tyler represent NJC at this event." said NJC Head Coach Brian Joyce. "Tyler had one of the best seasons ever at NJC, and very deserving of this honor."
