Dominguez signs with Florida International

Mike Dominguez of the Northeastern Junior College (NJC) Plainsmen basketball team, recently signed to play basketball and continue his education at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami. FIU is a Division 1 school and participates in the Sun Belt Conference. Taking Part in the Letter of Intent signing was NJC Coach Eddie Trenkle. Dominguez, from Espanola,N.M., closed out his outstanding career at NJC by helping the Plainsmen to a 30-3 record last season. During his sophomore year Dominguez was third on the team in scoring with 343 points and averaged 11.8 PPG. He also grabbed 130 rebounds, dished out 94 assists and had 67 steals. He was one of the top three-points shooters in the region by canning 79-out-of-177 treys for 46.6%. He was also 112-for-243 from two-point range for 46.1%. Dominguez red-shirted his freshman year at NJC in 2005-06 when the Plainsmen posted a 30-4 record. In 2006-07, Dominguez was a starter and played a huge role in NJC's Region IX Tournament title and consolation champions in the NJCAA National Tournament as the Plainsmen posted an amazing 34-2 record. Therefore, in all three seasons Dominguez has been at NJC, Plainsmen basketball teams have complied a record of 94- 9, as well as going undefeated in his career in the Bank of Colorado Event Center. Dominguez is looking forward to continuing his education and playing career in the sunny state of Florida. "It is a great place to be and a great place to get my education and compete. I am very excited about my opportunities there," said Dominguez.
