NJC guard Omar Leary commits to Colorado State University

Leary Commits To Colorado State

Oct. 18, 2006

NJC point guard Omar Leary said he will continue his basketball career at Colorado State University.

The 5-10, 170-pound native of Portland, Ore., verbally committed to CSU after fielding offers and interest from Nebraska, the University of Texas-San Antonio, Northern Colorado, Weber State and Ball State.

"I felt like it was the right situation," Leary said. "They have a point guard leaving so I have a chance to contribute right away. They play their game according to the players they have. I prefer an up-and-down style, but believe I can also succeed in a half-court set."

Leary's attachment to state of Colorado was a key selling point for the Rams' coaching staff.

"I like Colorado," Leary said, "So staying in Colorado to play definitely impacted my decision."

Leary said former NJC Head Coach Brian Joyce also contributed to his decision.

"He (Joyce) played a big role in my decision," Leary said. "He'll continue to help make me a better person on and off the court."
