Plainswomen Pull Away In Second Half
Jan. 7, 2007
By Anthony Arroyo Journal-Advocate sports reporter STERLING - After the game was tied at 29 apiece, the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen nailed some key shots, including free throws down the stretch to take the 65-56 victory over Northwest Wyoming Junior College at Jackson & Edwards Arena Friday night. As part of the Roy Edwards Memorial Classic, both teams looked flat from the start, as both clubs shot just 39 percent from the field. "We played pretty good defense for the most part," Head Coach Darrel Parker said. "We stepped our level of play in the second half and we slowly started to pull away, enough for the win." Northeastern controlled the ball much better in the second half after a shaky start to the game. The team had 18 turnovers in the contest, but only committed eight of them in the final half. Sophomore Daria Basova had a huge game, scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds for the Plainswomen. Basova also was a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. Jackie Davis added 12 points in the game while freshman Sarah Conner had a double-double of her own with 10 points and 10 rebounds. |
