Basova Records First-Half Double Double As Plainswomen Pound North Platte

Jan. 23, 2007

Final Stats

The Northeastern Junior College women's basketball team made quick work of North Platte Community College on Tuesday in Jackson-Edwards Arena.

It was a mismatch from the outset. Coach Darrel Parker's Plainswomen started the game on a 23-1 run and never looked back en route to a 72-44 victory.

Sophomore post Daria Basova powered NJC to a 51-11, halftime lead. Basova scored 16 of her 20 points in the first half. The Moscow, Russia native also pulled down 11 of her 13 rebounds in the opening period, giving her a double-double in the first half.

Freshman Sarah Conner scored 13 points and sophomore Roni Whitman dropped in 10. Conner grabbed seven rebounds while Whitman contributed three assists and four steals.

NJC held North Platte to 27 percent shooting from the field. North Platte hit just three field goals in the first half to give the Plainswomen an insurmountable lead. North Platte battled back to outscore NJC, 33-21, in the second half.
