Plainswomen Record 20th Win At Air Force Prep

Feb. 7, 2007

Final Stats

The Northeastern Junior College women's basketball team picked up its 20th win of the season on Tuesday. Coach Darrel Parker's Plainswomen moved to 20-5 with a 64-52 road victory at Air Force Prep in Colorado Springs.

"I don't know what my expectations were coming into the season," Parker said. "But after the Christmas break, when we knew our team a little better, I thought we should get 20 wins."

Parker said this 20-win team has unfinished business.

"We still want to take it a step further before we finish," he said. "But success isn't always about the wins and losses. We've won a lot of close games, and having the skill to be competing in those games is what we're trying to accomplish."

Tuesday the Plaiswomen accomplished another NJC-style victory.

Parker's team took a commanding, 33-20 lead into halftime on the strength of its defense. The Plainswomen held Air Force Prep to 22 percent shooting from the field and just four field goals in the opening session.

Daria Basova finished the game with another double-double. The sophomore from Moscow scored 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Basova was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line, and she chipped in a blocked shot.

Freshman Sarah Conner was NJC's only other player to score in double figures with 11 points. Conner added four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal to the Plainswomen's road win.

Sophomore Sara Parker scored nine points and pulled down seven boards in a starting role while sophomore Roni Whitman finished with eight points and four rebounds.
