Final Stats

The Plainswomen of Northeastern Junior College improved to 8-0 after sweeping their games in the annual Bank of Colorado Shootout Invitational.

The Plainswomen started their winning ways over the weekend with a 79-53 victory against Doane Friday afternoon. In that contest, only the freshman played and they made an impact in a big way.

NJC held on to a 38-29 halftime lead and extended it to the 26-point victory with a big second half.

Offensively, Candace Ewert and Kristy Henderson led the way with 15 points each, both connecting on one from behind the arc. Henderson also added nine rebounds and four assists.

Jacqie Neill finished with 11 points, while Shorty Ramos went off for nine points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals in the win.

Later that evening, the women went up against Colby and came away with a 80-50 decision to wrap up the day with a 2-0 mark.

In that contest, sophomore Sarah Conner went off for 20 points on 6-10 shooting from the field, including two from deep. She went 6-7 from the free throw line and also had eight rebounds and six assists.

Freshman Silke Forstmann added 13 points and five rebounds Friday night, while sophomore Kristen Forbes went for 12 and six respectably.

NJC had a 36-17 lead at halftime on their way to the win. The Plainswomen had 33 points off their bench, with 12 total players scoring at least two points.

Northeastern concluded the tournament with a 62-47 win against the Northeast All-Stars. The game was tight through the first half, with the home team up 24-22, but they would resume to take over the second half for the win.

Next up for the ladies will be Thanksgiving invitational in Garden City, Kan., where the team will play Seward County Community College (ranked No. 1 in the nation during pre-season) Friday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. Saturday, the girls will play Garden City at 6 p.m.
