Plainswomen Roll At North Platte
Nov. 22, 2006
The NJC women's basketball team continued to roll with an 82-57 victory at North Platte on Tuesday. The Plainswomen continued its hot shooting, hitting 52 percent of their shots from the field and 46 percent of its three-pointers. The Plainswomen used the same recipe for success they used Saturday night with a huge, second-half run. NJC ran off 15 consecutive points to ice the game at North Platte on Tuesday after using a 23-0 run to beat Southeast Nebraska on Saturday. "We played real well up there," Head Coach Darrel Parker said. "We played probably our best game of the year defensively. We had good intensity for out first road test and we did what we needed to do to get a big road win." The Plainswomen contained North Platte's Maggie Condon who is among the nation's elite in scoring. NJC held her to just 10 points, and the Plainswomen held North Platte to just 38 percent shooting from the field. "We did a good job of knowing where Condon was at all times," Parker said. "We made it tough for her to score and I think that frustrated their team a little." Daria Basova notched her fourth double-double of the season to lead the Plainswomen with 22 points and 10 rebounds. The sophomore hit six of seven of her free-throw attempts. Roni Whitman led NJC from behind the arc, draining 3-of-4 three pointers en route to 15 points. The sophomore guard from Peetz added four assists and three rebounds. Freshman Sarah Conner continued to impress with 14 points and nine rebounds while dishing out four assists. The guard from Guernsey, Wyo., also chipped in three steals to the NJC defensive effort. The Plainswomen improved to 7-1 with the win and will travel to the Odessa Thanksgiving Classic in Texas. |
