Plainswomen 1-1 On Weekend
Nov. 27, 2007
GARDEN CITY, Kan -- The Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen split at the Garden City Invitational in Kansas over the weekend, dropping their first game of the year. NJC, ranked No. 9 coming in to tournament play, was defeated by a tough Seward County team 63-55 Friday, while the team re-gathered themselves to pick up a 69-54 victory against host Garden City.
Friday night, it seemed like the Plainswomen hurt themselves, shooting a uncharacteristic 1-15 from the three point line. After the game was tied at 27, Seward slowly began to pull away and the end of the game, which forced NJC to stop the clock by fouling. Seward County went 16-19 at the line, on their way to an eight point victory.
Freshman Stacy Howard had 12 points and six rebounds in 21 minutes of work in a starting role. Sophomore Kristen Forbes had 11 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Sarah Conner finished with nine points and five assists.
Northeastern connected on five three pointers, with Conner draining three of them in Saturday night action against Garden City. Conner finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win. Howard scored in double-figures again, finishing with 11 points. Sophomore Jennifer Garner added nine points. NJC had a season low 13 turnovers in the win.
Next up for the Plainswomen is a trip to Air Force Prep Wednesday at 6 p.m. Northeastern defeated Prep 79-68 in their home opener earlier this season.
