Hard fought game won by Plainswomen
Dec. 4, 2006
By Anthony Arroyo Journal-Advocate sports reporter STERLING -- The Plainswomen had an up and down performance, but they ended on a high as a desperation three-pointer was missed by Iowa Western Community College in their 75-73 victory at the Jackson & Edwards Arena Friday. The Ladies had the lead throughout most of the game, including a five point lead at halftime. Northeastern was able to stop the late run by the Reivers despite being out-rebounded underneath and missing some shots late in the game. "They just started hitting shots and getting plenty of second chance points on us in the second half," head coach Darrel Parker said. "We played well in spurts, but it wasn't a compete game by any means." NJC had 42 rebounds to their opponents 51, had two more turnovers overall, and shot for a lower percentage than their opponent. The one thing that the team did extremely well was that they got to the free-throw line. "Wow, we shot 41 free throws?" Parker said looking at the stat sheet. In the contest, the Plainswomen had a pretty balanced offensive attack with four women in double digits. Kristen Forbes led things with 16 points off the bench while Daria Basova added 15. Roni Whitman had 12 points to go along with her team-high six assists and Jackie Davis came through with 11.
