Dec. 5, 2007 By Anthony Arroyo Journal-Advocate sports reporter
STERLING -- The Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen ran up and down the court and displayed some good defense, on their way to a 82-53 victory against North Platte Community College Tuesday night. NJC had 12 steals and forced 28 turnovers that translated into 32 points. The team also out-rebounded their opponent 67-44. Sophomore Kristen Forbes got things started offensively for the Plainswomen, with a free throw and a lay-up to give her team a quick 3-0 lead. The margin would increase to 6-1 after a three from sophomore Sarah Conner and would jump up to 16-7 before a pair of free throws on the other end made the score 20-14 with 11:37 to play in the opening half. It was then where NJC got things rolling. Northeastern would begin to force turnovers, finish off second chance points and made shots from downtown, completing a 22-8 run to close off the half. The lead would reach double-figures on a put back by Forbes at the 6:15 mark and another put back, this time by freshman Silke Forstmann made increased the advantage to 17 points. NJC would lead 42-22 at half. The Plainswomen connected on the first points of the second half and it was all good from there, as the team outscored their opponent by nine in the second half. 11 players on the roster scored at least two points against North Platte. Leading the way was Conner, who had 19 points, only missing one shot in the game. She was 6-7 from the field, including four from behind the arc. Sarah was also 3-3 from the charity stripe and added five rebounds and three assists to her night. Freshman Stacy Howard had 12 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes of work off the bench, while Forstmann finished with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.
