Jennifer Garner Earns "Whitlock Heart Award"
Feb. 26, 2008
The Northeastern Junior College Women's Basketball Team awarded the "Andi Whitlock Heart Award", following the Plainswomen game against Casper College. This award was created in memory of Andi Whitlock, who competed on the NJC Plainswomen Basketball Team from 2001-2003, before she was tragically lost in car accident. The award was created to honor a player on the team who exemplifies the character, competitiveness, spirit, desire and toughness that Andi had for the game of basketball and life in general. The individual team members vote for the award winner and that player's name is inscribed on the plaque that hangs in the lobby of the Bank Of Colorado Event Center. This year's winner is sophomore guard, Jennifer Garner, from Guernsey, Wyoming. Garner is a two year starter averaging over 9 points and 5 rebounds per game this season. "Jenifer definitely deserves an award of this nature. She is well liked and respected by her teammates and coaches. She may be quiet in demeanor, but is high energy on the court. She is very competitive and makes everyone around her better," stated assistant coach Dave Huss. "I am happy for her because she is a great kid. What else can you say"? Garner is honored to have received the award. "It mean's a lot to me to get this award. Knowing I have the respect of my teammates is very special. Also, to receive an award of this nature makes it even that much more meaningful. I have heard what type of person Andi was so that makes this very gratifying".
