Former NJC standouts Roni Whitman and Dasha Basova are doing some good things at their respective schools.

Former Peetz High School and Northeastern Junior College basketball star Roni Whitman has recently been honored as the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Whitman is a junior at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan. where she is playing for the Lady Swedes women's basketball team.

Last week she averaged 14 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4 assists pergame, helping the team to a 2-0 mark with wins over Tabor and Kansas Wesleyan. Whitman shot 59% from the field and 73% from the free throw line.

Roni is the daughter of Tatia Whitman of Peetz and is majoring in physical education at Bethany College.

Dasha Basova, a junior at Alaska Anchorage University, scored 15 points to lead 5th-ranked Alaska Anchorage to a 98-31 victory over Chaminade in the second game of the Glacier Classic at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex on Friday night.

Basova and teammate Maria Nilsson combined for 33 points on eight three-pointers to help the Seawolves (6-0) improve their school-record home winning streak to 22 games. Nilsson was named the Classic's Most Outstanding Player and was joined by Basova on the All-Classic Team.

Northeastern players at the next level continue to shine and represent the programs, for which they once played, very well. Northeastern is proud of their accomplishments and wish them well in the rest of the season.
