Plainswomen Roll In Pizza Hut Tournament

Oct. 9, 2006

The NJC volleyball team pushed its record to 28-5 by making quick work of its three opponents in the Pizza Hut Invitational.

The Plainswomen take a five-match win streak to Western Nebraska on Oct. 10 for a 7 p.m. start. The group will also try to extend its consecutive-game, win streak to 16.

Friday in the Bank of Colorado Event center the Plainswomen disposed of Casper College and Colby Community College. Neither Casper nor Colby could find the answer to NJC's attack as the Plainswomen defeated both teams, three games to none.

Head Coach Marci Henry's team opened the home tournament with a 3-0 win over Casper. The Plainswomen set the tone in Game One with a 30-17 win. They finished Colby with wins of 30-21 and 30-24 in Games Two and Three.

NJC held Colby to just nine points in the first game of the Friday night match. The Plainswomen took the next two games; 30-24 and 30-20. On Saturday, the Plainswomen continued to dominate in its final match of the tournament. Garden City proved no match for NJC as the Plainswomen took control early and never let up. NJC overcame Garden City's best shot in Game One, winning 30-23.

The Plainswomen used that momentum to round out a perfect tournament. They took Games Two and Three; 30-15 and 30-12.

Thais Hollerbach led the Plainswomen with 37 kills while Addi Radke followed closely with 36. Freshman Hollerbach added eight aces to the NJC scoring output while contributing to the defense with six blocks and 25 digs.

Radke also notched six blocks and chipped in 29 digs and three aces.

Jenny Andresen led all Plainswomen for the tournament with 30 digs. The sophomore defensive specialist from Parker also helped in NJC on offensive with seven aces.
