Plainswomen rule Nebraska portion of tournament
Sept. 25, 2005 The Northeastern Junior College volleyball team started the first leg of the Wyo-Nebraska Tournament Thursday with a perfect 2-0 record in the Cornhusker State. Today the Plainswomen get to try the pesky Wyo. portion of the tournament, when they head to Torrington for three games. Thursday Northeastern got wins against Sheridan and Marshalltown. The Sheridan match went four games as the Plainswomen prevailed 30-24, 30-26, 22-30, 30-23. Shelby Heggie had 12 kills to lead Northeastern. Ashley Murphey had 11 and Janie Elkins had 10. Heggie also had 10 blocks and Murphey had seven. Lindsey Wilson had 15 digs and Erin Holbrook managed 12 while Elkins had 10. Setter Cidney Legg had 40 assists. Against Marshalltown the Plainswomen won 30-15, 30-16, 30-25. Heggie had nine kills and Murphey and Ashley Kauffman each had eight. Murphey added seven blocks. Jimilia McNeal had three. Wilson dug 12 balls and Elkins dug 11. Legg had 29 assists. The wins improve the Plainswomen to 12-9, however seven of those losses have come to team currently ranked nationally in the top 20. |
