Plainswomen get by Lamar, set for Pizza Hut Invitational
Oct. 4, 2006 The NJC volleyball team defeated Lamar, 3-0, on the road Tuesday night. The Plainswomen opened the match with a 30-23 win in the first game. NJC followed with wins of 30-14 and 30-24. Coaches will usually say that there are no ugly wins. But Head Coach Marci Henry said this one was close. "Our performance was not pretty," Henry said. "But it was enough to get the win." Addi Radke led the Plainswomen with 12 kills and helped anchor the defensive effort with eight digs. Jenny Andresen added a team-high nine digs. Brittany Palmer (17 assists) and Stacy Manweiler (13 assists) had all but two of NJC's 32 assists. The win boosted NJC's record to 25-5 going into this weekend's home matches. Henry would like to see her team tighten things up as they get set for the Pizza Hut Invitational, Oct. 6 and 7 at the Bank of Colorado Event Center. "The game was mistake-ridden with several service and unforced hitting errors," Henry said of her team's play at Lamar. "We'll have to play a lot better this weekend." Several teams from the region will be gunning for host NJC this weekend in the Pizza Hut tournament. Teams from Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado take the court Friday at 5pm. The Plainswomen take on Casper at 5 p.m. and Colby at 8 p.m. on Oct. 6. NJC's takes on Garden City at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 7.
