Plainswomen edge Otero to start trip

Oct. 17, 2005

Friday The Northeastern Junior College volleyball team proved the road is no problem. On the front end of a two-game weekend trip, the Plainswomen knocked off Otero 30-23, 31-33, 30-21, 30-19 in La Junta.

Northeastern will finish the trip today at Trinidad.

Against Otero, the second match got away from the Plainswomen because they failed to convert on three consecutive free balls.

Their team hitting percentage in that game was .000.

However, everything else went according to plan on the night.

Shelby Heggie led Northeastern with 21 kills and had a hitting percentage over .400.

Ashley Murphey had 11 stuff blocks while Heggie, Jimilia McNeal and Janie Elkins each had seven.

Elkins also had six digs while Stacy Manweiler added 43 assists.

Cidney Legg played solid defense and had 17 service points.

Northeastern improved to 27-10.
