LA JUNTA - Saturday at the Region IX South tournament was pretty much the same as Friday at the Region IX South tournament for the Northeastern Junior College volleyball team. Just like Friday, the Plainswomen opened the day with a win over Otero - only this was for the right to go to the tournament's final.

And just like Friday, the Plainswomen moved on to play Western Nebraska later in the day.

Only this time, the loss ended Northeastern's season as the Cougars will represent the region in the national tournament.

Against Western the score was 30-26, 30-21, 30-21. Shelby Heggie ended her career at Northeastern with nine kills. Janie Elkins went out with 17 digs and Lindsey Wilson finished with 12.

"We feel like we are one of the better teams in the nation and we don't have an opportunity to compete at nationals," said coach Marci Henry.
